Wangapeka Valley Activities
TRAMPING: Tramp the Wangapeka Track - Unspoilt and stunning with its rugged scenery and beautiful beech forested valleys. Suitable for experienced trampers looking to escape crowded huts and toe to heel tramping.
EASY WALKS: ½ - 1 day tramping for those looking for a more relaxed venture or under time constraints. With local knowledge and no booking system for huts it's a great way to get started.
GUIDED WALKS: Take a walk in the park and turn it into an unforgettable experience. Maryanne and Bill of Bush & Beyond have 15 years experience guiding in the Kahurangi National Park. They are passionate about the park, conservation and the Blue Duck (Whiro) recovery programme. Contact us to arrange a trip for you tailored to your stay at Our Farm.
FISHING: The upper reaches of the Wangapeka River afford the angler one of the true wilderness rivers that one can drive to in the Nelson region. It's beautiful clear free stone flowing river supports on average larger trout - many tipping the scales over the magic double figures (lbs). Also typically superb looking and fighting fish.
THE BEST FISHING IN LIFE IS GUILT FREE: If you love fishing but your partner or family do not, make Our Farm your base just 5 min. from the gate to some of the best fishing spots with easy access across private land.
MOUNTAIN BIKING: Superb rides that test and stretch abilities or gentle family fun. Again local knowledge is the key to your enjoyment.
The Kahurangi National Park road is particularly beautiful as it meanders through pasture and Native bush alongside the pristine mountain fed Wangapeka River. Easily accessible to swim or picnic by.
KAYAKING & RAFTING: Long used by locals as an ideal river for safe to moderate rafting or kayaking enjoyment. There is public road access to a large stretch of the Wangapeka River enabling kayaking and rafting trips for durations of 1 - 3 hrs.
Your enjoyment and safety is paramount to us. If you are interested in any of these activities we expect that you have the equipment and knowledge required. We feel our role is as a friendly base providing helpful tips and fixing the odd logistical problem.
